I just woke up from an afternoon nap feeling pretty recharged and had a clear mind ready for work, yet I was feeling quite confused at the same time. Ironic huh?
It's because I just had a dream within a dream! Imagine waking up twice and finding yourself still in bed. How would I know whether this time's for real or not?
"Having a dream within a dream may be a safer and more acceptable way to express material from your unconscious. The dream within a dream protects you, the dreamer, from waking up. Such dreams often reflect a hidden but crucial issue which you need to acknowledge and confront." Dream Moods: FAQ
I guess I'm not used to short afternoon naps. (An hour of nap is considered short to my usual 3-hour naps.)
Well at least the dream(s) didn't just left me confused on the bed, it also reminded me of a poem I came across some time back.
A Dream Within A Dream
by Edgar Allan Poe
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
Life is but a dream anyway, isn't it?
